Hugh Jackman’s girlfriend Sutton Foster is getting honest about the loneliness that can come with being a leading woman in show business.
The Broadway star opened up during a Women’s Health Lab panel titled ‘The Science Of Staying Strong: Longevity, Movement & Resilience’. During the discussion, Foster reflected on her long career, the pressure of public attention, and why she thinks women in the industry need more support from each other.
“I’ve been a leading lady for a long time,” Foster said. “But often I feel really alone.” That line hit hard, especially as Foster continues to face public attention over her relationship with Jackman.
Sutton Foster Says Broadway Women Often Feel Alone
Foster said she reached out to several women in Broadway last year and found that many shared the same feeling. “I reached out to a lot of my contemporaries last year, and a lot of the women on Broadway, and we all are usually on our own,” she said. “Everyone shared the commonality of loneliness.”
She also appeared to touch on the way women are often compared, especially in high-profile personal situations. “Women of power can actually support each other, and we don’t have to be pitted against each other,” Foster added.
The comment arrives as Foster has been repeatedly discussed in connection with Jackman’s ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. Online chatter has often turned the two women into opposing figures in the same post-divorce storyline.
Hugh Jackman And Sutton Foster’s Romance Drew Attention
Jackman split from Furness in September 2024 after 27 years of marriage. The former couple share two children, Oscar and Ava.
At the time, Jackman and Furness released a joint statement saying their family would remain their “highest priority” as they moved into a new chapter.
Jackman later began dating Foster after the pair worked together in Broadway’s revival of ‘The Music Man’, which ran from late 2021 until January 2023.
Foster filed for divorce from her husband, Ted Griffin, in October 2024 after a decade of marriage. She and Jackman made their red carpet debut in October 2025 at the ‘Song Sung Blue’ premiere during AFI Fest at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
Their Met Gala Debut Made Things Louder
The couple made another major public appearance together at the Met Gala in May 2026. Jackman wore a classic black Giorgio Armani tuxedo with a Piaget watch. Foster wore a metallic one-shoulder gold gown with ruching on the bodice and a high slit. She finished the look with side-parted brunette hair and a bold red lip.
The appearance drew attention because Jackman and Furness had attended major public events together for years during their marriage.
For Foster, the public attention has now become part of her reality. Her latest comments suggest she is thinking less about competition and more about how lonely the spotlight can get, even when it looks glamorous from the outside.
