Blake Lively returned to the Met Gala just hours after settling her legal fight with Justin Baldoni, but the red carpet comeback quickly hit an awkward snag.

The 38-year-old actress was filmed appearing to direct assistants who were helping manage her dramatic Versace gown on the 2026 Met Gala steps. The dress featured layers of fabric and a long train, which required several helpers to carry and arrange as she moved up the carpet.

The moment spread online because of the timing. Lively was already under a harsh spotlight after her public fallout with her ‘It Ends With Us’ co-star.

Blake Lively’s Red Carpet Moment Gets Picked Apart

In the clip, several assistants can be seen trying to unfurl Lively’s train as she begins walking up the Met steps.

At one point, one helper appears to lift part of the skirt. Lively turns back, puts her hand out and seems to indicate that the fabric should be placed differently, appearing to direct him to let it drag behind her instead.

The exchange looked tense to some viewers. Others saw it as a celebrity trying to protect an expensive dress during one of the most photographed events of the year.

One viewer joked online, “No one has ever looked more like they were about to CC HR on the red carpet…”

Text over the clip read, “The dress said couture. The energy said ‘per my last email.’”

Fans Split Over Whether She Was Rude Or Just Direct

The video did not stop there.

As Lively continued walking, one assistant stayed close to help her with the gown. When he appeared to adjust the dress and offer his arm for balance, Lively turned back again and seemed to wave him away. He then stepped aside, leaving her to pose alone.

That was enough for some viewers to accuse her of being bossy. Others pushed back.

One social media user wrote, “It looks to me like she’s instructing the people who are hired to assist celebrities on the carpet how to help or not help with her dress.”

Another defended her, writing, “Not mean or bossy, just delegating like a boss.”

After giving directions, Lively appeared to smile and thank the attendants, which made the clip less clear-cut than the harshest reactions suggested.

Timing Made The Moment Even More Awkward

Lively wore an Atelier Versace gown from the brand’s Spring 2006 collection, giving her return a major fashion-house moment. But the red carpet attention arrived the same day she settled her long-running legal dispute with Baldoni.

That context made every gesture easier to scrutinize.

The actress has faced months of intense public debate over the ‘It Ends With Us’ fallout. A source claimed the lawsuit had damaged her standing in Hollywood, saying, “The lawsuit has ruined her in Hollywood… the truth is she was never that popular.”

The insider also claimed Lively had a reputation for being “difficult” and added, “I don’t think people in Hollywood are shedding tears over her.”

Lively may have intended the Met Gala to mark a controlled return to the spotlight. Instead, one short red carpet clip gave the internet another moment to argue over whether she was being rude, careful, or just trying to make sure the dress looked right.
