Brad Pitt’s distance from daughter Zahara Jolie appears to be deeper than ever.
Zahara graduated from Spelman College over the weekend, marking a major milestone after four years at the historically Black women’s college in Atlanta. Angelina Jolie and Zahara’s siblings were reportedly there to cheer her on.
Pitt was not.
Sources claimed the actor did not reach out about attending the ceremony or ask anyone for a ticket. That absence quickly became part of a larger family story, especially after Zahara appeared to use the name Zahara Marley Jolie during the graduation ceremony, leaving out Pitt.
Brad Pitt Reportedly Did Not Reach Out
A source close to Angelina said the day was focused on Zahara’s achievement, not Pitt’s absence.
“Zahara’s mom and siblings, who have been involved over the four very special years were present and cheering her and her Spelman sisters on,” the source said. The same insider added, “Nothing prevented him from showing up for her. Or ever visiting her. The day was about all she accomplished. Not whether he was willing to attend.”
Sources connected to Pitt gave a different explanation. They claimed he did not reach out because he has become so estranged from his children that any contact would likely have been unwelcome. That is the brutal part. Even a graduation ticket now sounds complicated.
Zahara Drops Pitt Name At Graduation
Zahara’s name choice also drew attention.
In a video from the ceremony, she appeared to go by Zahara Marley Jolie. That continues a pattern. In 2023, when she joined her sorority at Spelman, she introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie.”
Angelina adopted Zahara from Ethiopia when she was 7 months old. Pitt later adopted her during his marriage to Jolie. Zahara is not the only Jolie-Pitt child to distance herself from Pitt’s surname. Shiloh filed a petition to legally remove Pitt from her last name. Vivienne was also listed as Vivienne Jolie when she worked on the musical adaptation of ‘The Outsiders’. Brad and Angelina were together from 2003 until their 2016 split. Their divorce was legally finalized in December 2024.
Angelina Jolie Celebrates Zahara’s Spelman Journey
Zahara began at Spelman in 2022. At the time, Angelina shared her pride on Instagram. “Zahara with her Spelman sisters!” she wrote. “Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl.”
Angelina also supported Zahara last month when she gave a speech for her sorority. In that speech, Zahara praised her mother and described their bond as hard to put into words.
“My mom and I have a unique, almost kindred relationship,” Zahara said. She also thanked Angelina for showing her what it means to be “a decent human being.”
For Pitt, the graduation moment adds another painful marker to a public family divide. For Zahara, it was a celebration of her own work, her own name, and the family members who showed up.
