Content Advisory: This article discusses a chaotic evacuation following reported gunfire and online accusations involving a pregnant woman. Reader discretion is advised.

Stephen Miller went on Fox News to explain what he says happened during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner evacuation. The internet was not buying it.

Miller, who serves as deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security advisor, attended the April 25, 2026 dinner at the Washington Hilton with his wife, Katie Miller. She is reportedly around eight months pregnant with the couple’s fourth child.

After photos from the chaotic evacuation spread online, critics accused Miller of moving behind his pregnant wife instead of protecting her. On ‘Hannity’, he pushed back. “It’s just a husband’s natural reaction,” Miller said. “What is any husband’s instinct going to be? He’s going to obviously put his body over his wife.” That answer did not calm the backlash. It made the reaction louder.

Stephen Miller Gets Criticised Online

Miller framed the moment as instinctive. He insisted he was trying to shield Katie as they moved through the hotel during the evacuation.

Critics and people online saw something else.

“What is he talking about?” one user on X wrote. “Didn’t he hide behind his PREGNANT wife? Oh the hypocrisy is through the roof!” Another commenter argued that the photos did not match Miller’s version of events. “Um…as usual there are pics that show something very different,” the user wrote. “Miller put his wife in front of him. I’m not going to say ‘like a shield’ but he did not, in fact, put his body over his wife.” The same user added that Katie should have been positioned between Miller and the person behind him if he was truly trying to protect her. Another user wrote, “True. Why was this husband hanging off his pregnant wife’s chest and behind her using her as a human shield?”

Katie Miller Says Security Told Her To Move First

Katie Miller has also defended her husband. She previously appeared on Fox News and said security personnel told her to go ahead of Stephen because the threat was coming from behind them.

She also addressed the viral speculation about where his hands were during the exit. “He wasn’t going to put his hands on my stomach, because that’s where our baby is,” Katie said. Katie added that she did not realize the images had spread until she checked X. “There’s this like very funny post, and I look at Stephen, and I was like, ‘Did you really need to do that?’ And he’s like, ‘What did I do?'”

Miller’s Fox News appearance was meant to clean up the story. Instead, it gave people another round of material. For them, the issue was simple: his explanation said one thing, and the photos appeared to show another.
