Kris Jenner may have thought she was posting a harmless scare-prank clip with Ellen DeGeneres. The internet turned it into something messier.
On June 6, Jenner shared a video on Instagram showing DeGeneres hiding behind a wall before jumping out to scare her. The longtime Kardashian momager screamed as DeGeneres laughed, clearly pleased that the old prank still worked.
“What is wrong with you?” Jenner shouted after the scare.
Jenner later said the prank gave her “shivers” all over her body. She captioned the post, “@ellendegeneres still at her shenanigans…it never gets old.”
For some fans, it was a funny vacation moment between friends. For others, it looked like Jenner was helping DeGeneres slide back into the public eye.
Ellen DeGeneres Scared Kris Jenner On Vacation
DeGeneres built a large part of her daytime talk show image around pranks, surprise scares, and celebrity reactions. Jenner has been one of her favorite targets over the years, and this latest clip followed the same formula.
The comedian hid out of sight, waited for Jenner to walk by, and jumped out at the exact moment to scare her.
Jenner, wearing a flowing caftan, screamed before turning on DeGeneres with a shocked reaction. In the clip, she appeared to curse at the former talk show host while DeGeneres kept laughing.
“God, I have shivers all over my body,” Jenner said.
According to reports, DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have been vacationing in Mallorca with Jenner and Corey Gamble. The group was also photographed spending time on a luxury yacht.
Fans Turned The Prank Into Ellen Backlash
The comments quickly split.
Some viewers laughed at the scare and praised the friendship. One person wrote, “That’s hilarious, sorry Kris.” Another added, “I love yalls relationship.”
But many others were far less amused. DeGeneres has faced public criticism for years, and some fans made it clear they were not ready to move on.
“No we don’t trust Ellen,” one person wrote. Another added, “Nah we have not forgotten.” A third commenter asked, “Where’s Ellen been??? We didn’t forget what she’s done.”
One person wrote, “300k people still liking Ellen is insaneee,” while another joked, “I’d be scared if I saw Ellen too.”
Others accused Jenner of helping DeGeneres repair her public image. “Kris tryna soft launch Ellen back into the public,” one person wrote. Another asked, “How much did Ellen pay Kris for this post?” A separate commenter was even more direct, writing, “We don’t like Ellen anymore sorry Kris.”
Kris And Ellen Have A Long Friendship
Jenner and DeGeneres have been close for years. Jenner appeared on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ multiple times before the daytime series ended in 2022.
Their friendship also goes beyond talk-show appearances. In 2023, Jenner officiated DeGeneres and de Rossi’s vow renewal.
“These two were born for each other,” Jenner said at the time, adding that she and Gamble had spent years with them as friends, neighbors, dance partners, cocktail buddies, and late-night chat companions.
When Jenner turned 70 last November, DeGeneres posted another prank-style video showing Jenner asleep on a sofa while DeGeneres whispered the lyrics to ‘Leave the Door Open’ by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. Jenner eventually woke up startled and snapped at the people filming her.
That older clip was meant as a birthday joke. The new one, however, arrived in a very different public mood.
DeGeneres and de Rossi relocated to the U.K. in 2024, though reports later said they also purchased a home in Montecito, California. A real estate source claimed they were not moving back to the U.S. full-time and would split time between the U.K. and Montecito.
Now, Jenner’s prank post has reopened the bigger question around DeGeneres: whether audiences are ready to accept her old public persona again.
For Jenner, it may have been a vacation laugh. For the comments section, it became another reminder that Ellen’s comeback path still has plenty of resistance.
