Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 celebration is turning into a political headache before the first act even hits the stage.
The Great American State Fair was meant to help mark America’s 250th anniversary in Washington, D.C. Instead, the Trump-backed festival has been hit with artist exits, public confusion, and new claims that staff firings are now expected behind the scenes.
The trouble centers on the event’s concert lineup. Several announced performers have pulled out after saying they were not properly told the festival was tied to Trump’s Freedom 250 organization. Among the names who backed away were Bret Michaels, Martina McBride, Morris Day, and Young MC. That has reportedly left some people close to the White House furious.
Trump Team Reportedly Faces Firings
A White House source claimed the fallout has become serious enough that staff terminations are expected. “Allowing Z-list celebrities to embarrass the president like this, in a world where actual celebrities like Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj actually support him, isn’t just embarrassing, it’s grossly negligent, and firings are coming,” the source said.
The insider also described the situation as chaotic. “It’s a circular firing squad over there,” the source added. “Some artists hadn’t even been contractually locked down before the announcements were made.”
That detail may be the most damaging part of the mess. If true, it suggests the lineup was promoted before every deal was properly secured. For an event built around national pride and Trump’s political brand, the optics are rough.
Artists Say They Were Misled
Several performers reportedly believed the event was non-partisan when it was first presented to them. After learning more about its political ties, they pulled out.
That created an embarrassing string of exits from a festival already facing scrutiny. The planned concert series is expected to run across nine days, but the public withdrawals have now become the bigger story.
One source close to the festival pushed back and dismissed the exiting performers as “irrelevant.” “They have been irrelevant for years, and my theory is that they just wanted their 15 minutes of fame,” the source said. “It was a publicity stunt.”
The source also claimed the organizers could try to force some performers to appear because they were already paid, but said it was “not worth it.”
Trump Says He Could Replace Them Himself
Trump has not stayed quiet about the fiasco.
In a Truth Social post, he called for the event to be canceled and floated replacing it with a rally. He also claimed he could draw “much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime.”
He called the departing performers “overpriced” and “boring,” saying they “do nothing but complain.”
“I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally,” Trump wrote. “Same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited.”
For now, Flo Rida, C+C Music Factory, and Vanilla Ice are reportedly still attached to the event. But the damage is already clear.
The festival was supposed to showcase Trump’s version of America’s 250th birthday. Instead, it has become a messy fight over contracts, politics, celebrity pullouts, and who gets blamed next.
