Donald Trump is furious after a federal judge ordered his name removed from the Kennedy Center.

The president attacked U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper on Truth Social after Cooper blocked Trump’s plan to close the Kennedy Center for a two-year renovation and ruled that the building could not be renamed the “Trump Kennedy Center.”

Trump called the ruling more proof that “our Court System is RIGGED.”

The decision came in a 94-page opinion issued Friday, on what would have been President John F. Kennedy’s 109th birthday.

Judge Orders Trump Name Removed

Cooper sided with Rep. Joyce Beatty, an Ohio Democrat and ex officio member of the Kennedy Center board.

The judge found that the board, which had been reshaped under Trump, overstepped when it voted in December 2025 to rename the institution as the “Trump Kennedy Center.” Cooper also ruled against the board’s March approval of a closure that was expected to begin around the Fourth of July.

“The Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy,” Cooper wrote.

He added that Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress has the power to change it.

Cooper gave the administration 14 days to remove Trump’s name from the building’s façade, website, and official materials.

The judge did not stop repair work from continuing. He also said the board could try again to close the venue if it followed the proper process.

Trump Turns On Judge And His Wife

Trump responded by calling Cooper “a Barack Hussein Obama Judge” and accusing him of standing in the way of what Trump described as a “magnificent” rebuild.

The president claimed the renovation would have replaced rotting beams, old HVAC equipment, and damaged marble.

Trump also attacked Cooper’s wife, attorney Amy Jeffress, claiming she is “totally wired into the Left System” and arguing that her background created a conflict of interest.

“He has a total Conflict of Interest, and should be brought up on charges for not revealing these facts,” Trump wrote.

Jeffress is a former federal prosecutor who served as a counselor to former Attorney General Eric Holder during the Obama administration. She also represented the House Select Committee that investigated the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and later became former President Joe Biden’s personal attorney in 2025.

Trump Threatens Kennedy Center’s Future

Trump then suggested the Kennedy Center may now close altogether. “That is why The Kennedy Center will soon be closed, probably never to open again,” he wrote.

He tied the ruling to other recent court losses, including a federal decision against several of his tariffs, and ended the post by vowing to “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!”

In a separate Truth Social post, Trump said his team would work with Congress to transfer the Kennedy Center back to lawmakers so they could decide what to do with it.

For the Kennedy family, the ruling preserves the name of the institution created to honor JFK. For Trump, it has become another legal fight, another attack on the courts, and another public feud over whether his name belongs on one of Washington’s most famous cultural landmarks.
