Angelina Jolie is selling the Los Angeles mansion that became her post-divorce refuge, and the timing says plenty. The Angelina Jolie estate hit the market for $29.85 million as she prepares for life after her youngest children turn 18. The historic Los Feliz property once belonged to filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille. Now, it looks like Jolie’s last major tie to a city she has openly wanted to leave.
Jolie bought the 11,000-square-foot home in 2017, after her split from Brad Pitt. The estate gave her privacy, space and proximity to Pitt while custody issues remained active. Still, she later made clear that Los Angeles never felt like a true long-term home. In a 2024 interview, she said she stayed because of the divorce.
Angelina Jolie Estate Marks A Turning Point
The property sits inside gated Laughlin Park and carries old Hollywood weight. Built in 1913, it was home to DeMille for decades. The estate includes six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a guest house, pool house, tea house, fitness studio and sweeping city views. It is less a celebrity crash pad than a full Hollywood landmark.
Yet the listing reads like more than a real estate move. Jolie has said she wants more privacy, peace and global freedom. Her twins, Knox and Vivienne, turn 18 in July 2026. That milestone appears to be the opening she has been waiting for.
Friends quoted in tabloid reports have described Jolie as eager to leave. Some even said she felt trapped in Los Angeles because of the long divorce process. Those claims remain anonymous. However, they echo Jolie’s own public remarks about wanting to live abroad.
Brad Pitt Shadow Still Lingers
Jolie and Pitt finalized their divorce in December 2024 after more than eight years of legal battles. They separated in 2016 following an incident on a private plane. Jolie has alleged abusive behavior during the flight. Pitt has denied abuse allegations, and authorities did not bring charges.
Their legal fight did not end with the divorce. The former couple remains locked in a dispute over Château Miraval, the French winery they once owned together. Pitt sued over Jolie’s sale of her stake to Stoli. Jolie has denied wrongdoing and accused him of trying to punish her through the case.
In May, Jolie scored a legal win in that winery battle. A Los Angeles judge denied Pitt’s request to access private emails tied to the sale. Her attorney called the ruling important. Still, the larger dispute remains active.
A Move Beyond Los Angeles
Jolie’s next chapter appears to point overseas. People previously reported that she plans to spend significant time abroad once she leaves Los Angeles, especially in Cambodia. Cambodia has long carried deep personal meaning for her. It is where she adopted her eldest son, Maddox.
Europe may also remain part of the plan. Jolie has strong ties to international film, humanitarian work and life outside Hollywood’s center. She also owns a New York apartment, which reports say may stay in the family. Her children are now increasingly spread across different cities and careers.
The move fits Jolie’s long-running public image. She has always seemed more comfortable as a global figure than an industry insider. Los Angeles gave her a base during a brutal family transition. But it never looked like the ending she wanted.
For now, the mansion listing feels symbolic. Jolie is not just selling a famous house with a famous past. She is closing the chapter that began after the most painful split of her public life. Once the twins reach adulthood, the door out of Los Angeles may finally open.
