Katy Perry just turned an ex’s engagement into a joke, and she picked the perfect song for it.
The 41-year-old singer posted a TikTok reacting to Josh Groban’s engagement to stage actress Natalie McQueen. In the video, Perry wears a white robe and holds a glass of what appears to be orange juice while an article about Groban’s engagement appears in the background.
Then came the obvious soundtrack: her 2010 heartbreak anthem ‘The One That Got Away’.
Perry stared into the camera with a dramatically devastated expression, raised a toast, spilled her drink, and pretended to cry as she moved off-camera. Her caption was simple: “congrats,” followed by a champagne emoji.

The song choice was not random.
Perry and Groban briefly dated in 2009, and fans have long believed he inspired ‘The One That Got Away’. Perry added fuel to that theory during a 2017 livestream, when she ranked past partners and openly called Groban “the one that got away.”
Groban later reacted to the comment during a 2018 appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live’. He said he was flattered but surprised, adding that while the title was sweet, he did not exactly see himself in lyrics about Mustangs and tattoos.
Still, Perry’s new TikTok makes it clear she knows the internet remembers.
Groban Proposed At Disneyland
Groban, 45, announced his engagement to McQueen, 36, on April 21 after proposing at Disneyland.
“My best friend said yes!” he wrote on Instagram. “Sharing this life with you is my happiest place.”
The couple is believed to have been together since at least early 2023, when they made their relationship official on social media for Valentine’s Day.
Perry, meanwhile, is currently dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following her divorce from Orlando Bloom last year.

The timing is useful for Perry too. ‘The One That Got Away’ has recently been getting renewed attention online, and her TikTok taps directly into that revival.
It is also the kind of celebrity joke that works because everyone involved seems to be doing fine. Groban is engaged, Perry has moved on, and the old song now gets another viral moment.
For Perry, it was one robe, one drink, one fake meltdown, and one very pointed soundtrack.
