Ex-Prince Andrew’s quiet evening walk reportedly turned into a frightening security scare near his new home.
The former Duke of York, who was stripped of his remaining royal titles, honors, and styles by King Charles in late 2025, was allegedly approached by a masked man while walking his dogs on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk on May 6.
The incident comes years after Andrew’s police protection was withdrawn in 2022 and months after he reportedly moved to Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park.
Ex-Prince Andrew Faces Masked Man Scare Near Sandringham
According to the report, Andrew was walking near Sandringham Royal Parkland, close to Marsh Farm, when a man wearing a balaclava allegedly got out of a parked car and shouted at him.
Andrew was reportedly with a member of his private security team at the time. The situation escalated quickly, and Andrew allegedly ran back toward his car before driving away as the suspect chased him.
Norfolk Police later said officers attended the village of Wolferton after reports of a man acting in an intimidating manner. Authorities charged a man with a public order offense and carrying an offensive weapon. The suspect was reportedly interviewed at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Center and remained in custody.
The incident allegedly left Andrew shaken, and both he and his protection officer were asked to provide statements.
Security Questions Return After Reported Ambush
The scare has reportedly renewed questions about Andrew’s security arrangements.
One source suggested the incident showed the need for protection that reflects the risks attached to someone with Andrew’s public profile. King Charles reportedly cut Andrew’s remaining financial ties in 2024, including his annual allowance, and no longer funds his private security.
Andrew’s situation has already been under intense scrutiny. Earlier this year, reports claimed authorities arrested him at his Sandringham home as part of an investigation into allegations that he shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a U.K. trade envoy.
The former royal has faced years of fallout over his past links to Epstein. Those connections played a major role in his public collapse and eventual removal from royal life.
Epstein Fallout Still Follows Andrew
Andrew’s former aide Charlotte Manley previously offered to speak to police about her time working for him. She served as his private secretary and treasurer during parts of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Reports have linked Manley to a $100 payment from Buckingham Palace treasury in 2000 for a massage allegedly arranged by Ghislaine Maxwell. A former masseuse, Monique Giannelloni, also named Manley in connection with arranging a Buckingham Palace session with Andrew, which she claimed became uncomfortable when he appeared unclothed.
Separately, emails released by the U.S. Department of Justice reportedly raised more questions about Andrew’s relationship with Epstein. The messages, dated July 2010, allegedly came after Epstein’s release from house arrest following his conviction involving a minor.
Andrew reportedly responded to Epstein from an account named “The Duke,” congratulating him and calling the development “really, really good news.” The messages sparked criticism because they appeared far friendlier than Andrew’s previous public claims about the relationship.
Andrew’s Fall Still Draws Hollywood Interest
Andrew’s scandals have also attracted interest from major studios. Netflix, Amazon, MGM Studios, and Disney have reportedly been linked to possible projects about his downfall.
The story has already reached the screen through Amazon MGM Studios’ 2024 drama ‘A Very Royal Scandal’, which focused on Andrew’s disastrous 2019 ‘BBC Newsnight’ interview with Emily Maitlis about Epstein.
Now, the reported Sandringham scare adds another strange chapter to Andrew’s already battered public life. Once a senior royal, he is now living with reduced protection, deep reputational damage, and a past that keeps returning to the headlines.
