Kim Kardashian’s lawyer dream appears to be on pause, at least for now.
The reality star, Skims founder and criminal justice reform advocate has reportedly stepped back from taking the California bar exam after years of studying. According to TMZ, Kardashian opted out of the February exam and does not plan to take the July test either.
That matters because California offers the bar exam only twice a year. If she skips both 2026 dates, her next possible shot would not come until 2027.
The irony is hard to miss because Kardashian is still playing a lawyer on TV, starring as divorce attorney Allura Grant in ‘All’s Fair.’
Kim Kardashian’s Bar Exam Journey Hits Another Delay
Kardashian, 45, has not publicly confirmed the latest timeline. Sources close to her told TMZ that she is choosing to wait before trying again.
The update follows Kardashian’s admission last year that she had failed the California bar exam. She took the test in July 2025 and learned the result in November.
At the time, she tried to keep the tone light. “Well…I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram. “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up, just more studying and even more determination.”
Still, Kardashian had already suggested on ‘The Kardashians’ that there could be limits to how many times she would keep going. “I really want it, and if I don’t pass, I don’t think I would take it again,” she told producers. “I wouldn’t have the time for a few years, and then I’m older, and then my brain capacity is different.”
She Passed The Baby Bar After Multiple Attempts
Kardashian’s path to studying law and applying for the bar exam has not been traditional.
In December 2021, she announced that she had passed California’s “baby bar” exam after several attempts. “OMGGGG I PASSED THE BABY BAR EXAM!!!!” she wrote at the time. “Looking in the mirror, I am really proud of the woman looking back today in the reflection.”
She also made clear that the process had been difficult. “For anyone who doesn’t know my law school journey, know this wasn’t easy or handed to me,” Kardashian said.
She revealed that she had failed the exam three times over two years before passing. “I failed this exam 3 times in 2 years, but I got back up each time and studied harder and tried again until I did it!!!” she wrote.
Her Legal Goal Was Always Personal
Kardashian’s interest in law has long been tied to her late father, Robert Kardashian, who was part of O.J. Simpson’s defense team.
“Spending time with my father at his office definitely influenced me,” she told Hong Kong Vogue in 2022, adding that the work had “been in my soul for years.”
She has also linked the goal to criminal justice reform. “I’m very passionate about Criminal Justice Reform, and I want to advocate for those who I feel were wrongfully convicted,” Kardashian said.
Instead of attending law school in the standard way, Kardashian completed a four-year California Law Office Study Program, an apprenticeship-style path that she finished in May 2025.
Now, the next chapter is less clear. Kardashian may still want the title. She may still try again. But for the moment, the woman playing a lawyer on screen is reportedly not heading back into the bar exam room this year.
