Pierce Brosnan has traded his James Bond polish for a very different look in the trailer for his new film ‘Giant.’ The 72-year-old actor appears almost unrecognizable as Irish boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, wearing glasses, gray wispy hair and an older, rougher look that is far removed from his usual suave image.
The transformation quickly caught attention online, with some fans saying Brosnan looked more like Bernie Sanders than a former 007.
One viewer wrote, “Pierce Brosnan looks like Bernie Sanders in the thumbnail.” Another joked on X, “Pierce Brosnan in the Bernie Sanders biopic, or Larry David, I can’t remember.”
Brosnan Plays Boxing Trainer Brendan Ingle
‘Giant’ tells the true story of British-Yemeni boxing champion Prince Naseem ‘Naz’ Hamed, played by Amir El-Masry, and his close relationship with trainer Brendan Ingle.
The film follows Naz’s rise from his early life in Sheffield to becoming a world champion, framing the story as a classic rise-from-nothing sports drama.
Brosnan’s role as Ingle marks a major physical shift for the actor. The gray hair, glasses and weathered styling make him look decades away from the slick spy image that made him famous.
Fans Are Already Excited For The Boxing Drama
The trailer, released on YouTube on May 1, drew positive reactions from boxing fans and film viewers.
“I love boxing movies,” one person wrote. “Especially one based on one of my fav boxers ever!!” Another praised El-Masry’s casting, writing, “All support to our Egyptian star who embodies the persona of our Arab icon, Naseem Hamed, the Yemeni King.”
The real Brendan Ingle was a professional middleweight boxer and respected trainer. He worked with several world champions, including Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter, and Kell Brook. He died in 2018 at age 77 after suffering a brain hemorrhage.
Written and directed by Rowan Athale, ‘Giant’ also stars Katherine Dow Blyton, Ali Saleh, Ghaith Saleh, and Toby Stephens. The film is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 22. For now, though, the trailer’s biggest viral moment is simple: Pierce Brosnan looks nothing like Pierce Brosnan.
