Prince William is reportedly done entertaining any reunion talk with Prince Harry, and insiders say the silence is no accident.
The Prince of Wales is said to have taken a hard line against his younger brother after years of public fallout, with royal commentators claiming William now sees Harry as “totally untrustworthy.” That is a brutal place for the relationship to be, especially as King Charles III is reportedly still hoping some kind of peace deal could happen down the line. Right now, though, William appears to want none of it.
Prince William Reportedly Sees Harry as Beyond Trust
According to multiple royal commentators, Harry has tried to reopen contact with William, only to hit what one source described as a “wall of silence.” The distance between the brothers has reportedly held firm since the period around Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, and the feeling now is that it has only hardened.
British broadcaster Helena Chard said William is deliberately “ignoring the circus,” framing his silence as more than a temporary freeze. In her view, it reflects a lasting shift inside the royal family. Richard Fitzwilliams was even blunter, claiming William now regards Harry as “totally untrustworthy.”
That language matters. This is not being framed as ordinary sibling tension or a rough patch that can be patched over with one private meeting. It is being described as a deeper trust collapse, shaped by years of interviews, public accusations, and most of all Harry’s 2023 memoir ‘Spare’, which pulled private family grievances into the open in painful detail.
Why the Royal Rift Still Looks Far From Over
The breakdown between William and Harry has been building for years, but it reportedly deepened after Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California. The couple then gave interviews, released documentaries, and opened up about life inside the royal machine, adding more fuel to an already ugly family fracture.
Royal editor Roya Nikkhah has said William has a long memory when it comes to loyalty. “If someone picks the other side, he remembers that,” she said. Others have tried to cast that as strength rather than cruelty, arguing that William sees his position through the lens of duty, accountability, and protecting the monarchy he will one day lead.
There have also been claims that Kate Middleton tried to keep the brothers from reaching a complete breaking point. Royal editor Russell Myers said Catherine often played mediator when tensions ran high and encouraged both men to think about what they wanted for the future. Even so, those efforts reportedly failed to stop the relationship from falling apart.
He also explained that tensions may have deeper roots, tied to the different roles they were born into. “There’s the issue of the heir and the spare,” he explained, referring to William’s clear path as future king, compared to Harry’s more blurred position, which may have contributed to long-standing friction.
That tension could flare again this summer. Reports suggest Charles wants to reconnect with Harry and with Archie and Lilibet, whom he reportedly has not seen in years. But William is said to oppose any easy reunion path and still holds deep resentment over the public claims made about him and Catherine.
For now, the message coming from William’s camp looks simple enough. Harry may want a way back in. William still does not trust him enough to open the door.
