Anna Kendrick is back in the middle of a very awkward celebrity conversation after an old interview about Katy Perry resurfaced online. What was once played for laughs is now being viewed through a far more serious lens, as fresh allegations against Perry draw renewed attention to past remarks, old clips, and comments from people in her orbit. So, what exactly resurfaced, and why are people looking at it differently now?
Anna Kendrick’s Old Interview Gets a Second Look
During a 2014 appearance on ‘Conan’, Kendrick recalled what she described as a “weird night” involving Perry at the Grammys. The moment was treated as a joke at the time, with the studio audience laughing along as Kendrick described an unexpected and intrusive interaction.
Kendrick said, “Katy Perry touched my chest. It was a weird night.” She then added, “She’s very mature.” When Conan O’Brien pressed for more, Kendrick said, “I have met her before, and she’s like … she’s aggressive. I like it.”
She also joked that her low-cut Azzaro gown may have invited attention, saying it was “kinda asking for it,” before adding, “If nobody had done it, I would’ve been a little sad.” That line is now drawing fresh scrutiny as the clip circulates again in a very different climate.
Ruby Rose’s Claims Put Perry Back Under the Microscope
The renewed focus comes after Ruby Rose made serious claims on social media about an alleged incident involving Perry years ago at a nightclub in Melbourne. Rose said she had previously told the story publicly in a lighter way because she did not know how else to process it at the time.
Rose wrote that she was in her early 20s when the alleged incident happened and said it took nearly two decades to speak about it publicly. She described the long-term impact in stark terms and thanked those who believed her.
Perry’s team pushed back hard. A representative said, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.” The statement also said Rose has a history of making serious public accusations online that have been denied by those involved.
After that denial, Perry appeared to post a cryptic Instagram Story reading “I love you,” alongside an image connected to her 2013 song ‘By the Grace of God’.
Russell Brand’s Past Comments Resurface Too
As the story picked up steam, comments from Perry’s ex-husband Russell Brand also resurfaced. Speaking on his podcast ‘Stay Free’ in April 2025, Brand said Perry was “not weird or off key” and added that she “wasn’t involved in anything nefarious, as far as I could tell.”
He also said, “The reasons that a marriage didn’t work are the normal human reasons marriages don’t work, and I have nothing but respect for her.”
For now, the story keeps widening, pulling in an old late-night clip, a new denial, and past comments that are getting a second look.
