Gina Carano may be stepping back into the fight spotlight soon, but ‘Star Wars’ fans are watching for something else entirely: whether Cara Dune could ever return.

Carano, who played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of ‘The Mandalorian,’ was fired after controversial social media posts during the COVID-19 pandemic era. Since then, her relationship with Disney and Lucasfilm has been one of the franchise’s most debated behind-the-scenes stories.

Now, after settling her wrongful termination lawsuit, Carano is hinting that the door may not be fully closed.

The actress recently said she has already spoken with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, two major figures tied to ‘The Mandalorian’ and the future of ‘Star Wars.’ That alone was enough to get fans asking the obvious question: Is Cara Dune coming back?

Carano Says The Zoom Call Was ‘Really Nice’

Carano discussed the possible future of her ‘Star Wars’ character during an interview with Ariel Helwani. “I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau,” she said. “We got onto a Zoom call. It was really nice.”

Carano said the conversation felt surprisingly easy, despite everything that happened after her exit. “We didn’t miss a beat,” she added.

Then came the line that will probably get the most attention from ‘Mandalorian’ fans. “Jon Favreau got on Zoom and was really funny,” Carano said. “He was like so, where did we leave off?” That does not confirm a return. It does, however, suggest the relationship may be warmer than many fans assumed.

Carano will not appear in the upcoming movie version of the Disney+ series, which reportedly grew out of plans for ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4. Still, the fact that she is talking publicly about those conversations will keep speculation alive.

Bill Burr Previously Defended Her

Carano also received support from one of her former ‘Mandalorian’ costars, comedian Bill Burr. After her firing, Burr described Carano as “an absolute sweetheart” and a “super nice person.” He later called the situation “bizarre” while discussing the politics around her exit.

“I thought it was funny that the liberals proved her point,” Burr told ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ in 2022. “They just use outrage because they don’t like your politics.”

Burr said he considers himself liberal, but found the reaction disappointing. “As someone who considers himself liberal, it’s disappointing to see the left become how the right used to be when they went after the Dixie Chicks after they criticized George W. Bush,” he said.

Carano’s Future Still Looks Unclear

Burr also argued that social media has made careers more fragile. “And I love the whole idea that somebody can go back eight years in somebody’s Twitter feed and be like, ‘What about this?’” he said. His point was that public figures can be punished years later for old posts, while far bigger issues often get less attention.

Carano’s possible return remains uncertain. Lucasfilm has not announced anything official, and Cara Dune is not currently confirmed for future ‘Star Wars’ projects.

Still, Carano’s comments changed the conversation. For a character many fans thought was gone for good, “where did we leave off?” is a pretty loaded question.
