Meghan Markle is speaking in stark terms about the abuse she says has followed her for a decade, and this time she put a number on it. During an appearance in Australia with Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex said she has been bullied “every day for 10 years” and at one point was “the most trolled person in the entire world.” That is not vague frustration. That is Meghan framing the online hate around her as a constant part of life since she entered Harry’s orbit.

The remarks came during an event for Batyr, a youth mental health nonprofit, where Meghan and Harry spoke with young people about emotional strain, social media, and what it takes to keep going when the internet turns vicious. Meghan made clear that this was not abstract for her. It was personal, long-running, and, in her view, built into the way online platforms profit from cruelty.

“For now, 10 years, every day for 10 years, I have been bullied and attacked,” Meghan said. “And I was the most trolled person in the entire world.”

Meghan Says the Cruelty Economy Is Not Going Away

Meghan did not stop at describing the abuse. She also argued that the system driving it is unlikely to change. In her view, social media companies are not motivated to stop the behavior because outrage and cruelty keep people clicking.

“When I think of all of you and what you’re experiencing, I think so much of that is having to realize that you know that industry, that billion-dollar industry, that is completely anchored and predicated on cruelty to get clicks,” she said. “That’s not going to change. So you have to be stronger than that.”

That is the harder edge of what she said. This was not just Meghan asking for sympathy or recounting old pain. She was saying the machine is still running, still rewarded, and still aimed at real people.

Prince Harry Opens Up About His Own Breaking Point

Harry also used the event to talk about mental health in more direct language than usual. He said the pressure of life and everything surrounding it pushed him to a place where he finally had to admit he needed help.

“I waited until I was literally in the fetal position, much older, lying on the kitchen floor,” Harry said. “Until I was like, okay maybe this therapy thing — maybe I should try it.”

That quote gives the event a second hook. Meghan’s point was about enduring targeted public cruelty. Harry’s was about what happens when pain keeps piling up and someone finally stops pretending they can manage it alone.

Together, the two were clearly trying to turn their own experience into something useful for the young people in the room. Whether critics buy that or not, Meghan’s headline-making line is the one that will stick. Ten years on, she is still defining the online treatment she says she has faced in the bluntest terms possible.
