Dakota Johnson’s new romance just got a very public thumbs-up from someone who matters. Her mother, Melanie Griffith, has weighed in on the actress’s relationship with singer Role Model, and she did not sound even slightly hesitant.
In a video shared by gossip account Deuxmoi on April 5, Griffith gave a one-word review of the pairing: “Fabulous.” When asked if the couple had her approval, she made it even clearer. “Of course [they] do.” That is about as direct as celebrity mom endorsements get.

Dakota, 36, has recently been linked to Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, and the relationship already seems to be moving out of rumor territory and into something more visible. The two first sparked dating talk in December after being spotted getting close during a dinner outing with friends.
Things only picked up from there. In January, they were seen again during a Los Angeles date night that reportedly ended with the pair leaving hand in hand. That kind of low-key but obvious PDA tends to say enough on its own.
Now, Griffith’s latest comments have added another layer to the story. And unlike the usual vague celebrity parent response, this one came with zero hedging.
Dakota Johnson and Role Model Seem to Be Going Strong
The pair also appeared to be going strong when they attended the Los Angeles stop of Paul McCartney’s farewell tour on March 28. The show drew a packed celebrity crowd, including Taylor Swift, Margot Robbie, and Olivia Rodrigo, but Dakota and Tucker still managed to stand out because of the growing interest around their relationship.
For Dakota, this marks a new chapter after her long relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The two were first linked back in 2017 and stayed together for years, with reports at one point pointing to an engagement before the relationship ended last year.
Role Model, meanwhile, previously dated Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023. He later suggested that wanting to return to Maine played a major role in that breakup.
So far, Dakota and Tucker have not made some big glossy statement about where things are headed. They have not needed to. Between the hand-holding, the public outings, and Melanie Griffith’s very enthusiastic reaction, the message is already getting across pretty clearly.
