The 64-year-old star attended the César Film Awards on February 27, where he received an honorary award and delivered part of his speech in French. Photos from the event quickly circulated online, with some viewers questioning whether Carrey had undergone plastic surgery because of the differences in his appearance.
According to reports, Dr. Raffi Hovsepian, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon, reviewed recent photos of Carrey alongside older images to evaluate the changes. His assessment pointed toward typical age-related changes rather than significant surgical work.
The doctor noted that Carrey’s forehead and brow area appear consistent with normal aging. He also observed mild hollowing and loose skin around the eyes, which he described as common as people age. Importantly, he said there were no clear signs of procedures such as eyelid surgery.
Some online discussion focused on the actor’s cheeks, which appeared fuller in recent images. Dr. Hovsepian suggested this could potentially be the result of mild filler or temporary swelling from cosmetic treatments, but he emphasized that the effect was subtle and far from dramatic.
Lower on the face, the expert pointed out that slight softening around the jawline is typical for men in their 60s. He stressed that these types of changes often become more noticeable under certain lighting conditions or in high-resolution photography, particularly at red carpet events.
Another factor may simply be familiarity. In recent years, audiences have mostly seen Carrey on screen playing the exaggerated villain Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog films. Those performances relied heavily on makeup and character styling, making his natural appearance less recognizable to some viewers.
