Billie Eilish may soon add a major acting credit to her résumé.

The Grammy-winning singer is reportedly in talks to join the cast of a new film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar, directed by Academy Award winner Sarah Polley.

According to Deadline, the project is backed by several prominent production partners, including Joy Gorman Wettels’ company Joy Coalition, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and StudioCanal.

Focus Features, the studio behind numerous award-winning films, is expected to lead the project.

The adaptation would mark Eilish’s first major acting role in a feature film. While the singer has appeared in music videos and documentary projects, she has not previously taken on a significant acting role in a scripted movie.

Joy Gorman Wettels, who originally secured the rights to Plath’s novel, has been central to assembling the project’s creative team. Her production company helped bring both Polley and Eilish into discussions for the film.

Polley returns to directing after the success of her 2023 drama Women Talking, which earned widespread critical acclaim and multiple awards.

Originally published in 1963, The Bell Jar is widely considered one of Sylvia Plath’s most influential works. The novel follows a young woman navigating mental health struggles while trying to find her place in the world.

Casting details and production timelines for the film have not yet been announced.
