Travis Kelce says Taylor Swift played an important role in his decision to continue his NFL career.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end recently confirmed he will return for another season, ending speculation that he might retire after the previous campaign.
Speaking during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on March 10, Kelce explained that Swift’s work ethic helped influence his decision to keep playing.
Kelce said the two share a similar passion for their careers.
“We share the same passion for our work,” he said. “Fortunately, we’ve both had that drive since we were kids in our respective fields.”
Kelce said watching Swift continue to evolve creatively has been especially motivating.
“It’s truly inspiring to watch her constantly reinvent herself,” he said, noting how she keeps finding new themes for songs and new ways to develop her music.
According to Kelce, Swift’s enthusiasm for her craft helped push him to continue competing at the highest level.
“She still has that love and joy for what she does,” Kelce said.
Kelce added that having Swift around while he navigates major career decisions has also given him additional motivation.
“Seeing that definitely pushes me to say, ‘You know what? I’m not done yet either,’” he said. “I’ve still got some ideas up my sleeve and plenty of gas left in the tank.”
Kelce proposed to Swift in August, and the couple has remained one of the most closely followed celebrity relationships in sports and entertainment.
The upcoming season will mark Kelce’s 14th year in the NFL with the Chiefs.
