Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban may have finalized their divorce, but one surprisingly emotional issue is still causing tension between the former couple: their large collection of animals.

According to reports, the Hollywood actress and the country music star managed to settle most aspects of their split without major conflict. The divorce, finalized in January 2026 after Kidman filed in September 2025 citing irreconcilable differences, reportedly included a clear division of assets and a parenting arrangement for their daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15. But the future of their animals has reportedly become an unexpected sticking point.

At the center of the debate is the couple’s sprawling 110-acre Nashville estate in the upscale Northumberland Farms area. The property, which the pair purchased in 2008, includes an 11,000-square-foot home along with extensive land where their collection of animals lives. Over the years, the family has built what sources describe as a small farm, home to dogs, cats, chickens, alpacas, and fish in the property’s ponds.

While staff have been caring for the animals during the separation, insiders say Kidman has largely taken responsibility for their welfare. However, her long-term plans may complicate the situation. The actress has reportedly been considering spending more time in Australia, where she owns a large rural property in New South Wales.

Moving the animals there, however, would be extremely difficult. Australia has some of the strictest biosecurity laws in the world, with lengthy quarantine requirements and heavy restrictions on importing animals. While transporting household pets like dogs and cats can already be a complicated process, relocating farm animals such as alpacas would likely be impossible.

That leaves the Nashville estate as the most practical home for the animals, which has put the spotlight on Urban’s role in the situation. The country star has deep ties to Nashville, where his music career is based, making him the most likely candidate to oversee the property if the animals remain there.

Despite the unresolved question about their animals, the divorce itself reportedly remained largely amicable. The couple divided a global real estate portfolio valued at tens of millions of dollars and avoided disputes over finances. For now, the animals remain at the Nashville property under staff care, while Kidman and Urban continue discussing what their long-term future should look like.
