Disney is moving forward with another live-action adaptation of a popular animated film, and new casting announcements are drawing attention.
The studio has confirmed that Kathryn Hahn will play the villain Mother Gothel in its upcoming live-action remake of Tangled, the 2010 animated hit inspired by the Rapunzel fairy tale.
The film will revisit the story of Rapunzel, a young woman with magical hair who has spent her life locked in a tower. Her isolated world changes when she encounters Flynn Rider, a charming thief who becomes her unlikely partner in a journey beyond the tower.
Australian actress Teagan Croft has been cast as Rapunzel. Milo Manheim, known for his role in Disney’s Zombies franchise, will portray Flynn Rider.
Manheim recently told Entertainment Tonight that stepping into the role of Flynn comes with a sense of responsibility because of the character’s popularity.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous,” he said. “Flynn is such a beloved character, and this movie means so much to me personally.”

Disney confirmed Hahn’s casting through a video posted on the Walt Disney Studios social media account.
The project will be directed by Michael Gracey, whose previous work includes The Greatest Showman and Better Man. The screenplay is written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for Do Revenge and for her work on Thor: Love and Thunder.
The original animated Tangled was a major box office success, earning nearly $600 million worldwide and becoming one of Disney Animation’s most successful modern releases.
Disney has not yet announced an official release date for the live-action adaptation.
