Robert Cosby Jr., the 23-year-old son of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, has died in a heartbreaking tragedy that has shaken the Bravo community. The young man’s death was confirmed by his mother in an emotional message shared on social media.

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” Mary Cosby wrote on Instagram while announcing the devastating loss. “Though our hearts ache, we find solace in God’s promise and knowing he is now at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to guide us through this time of sorrow.”

Authorities later confirmed that Robert Cosby Jr. died from an overdose. According to reports citing the Salt Lake City Police Department, officers responded to a call at the family’s Utah home on February 23 around 6:14 p.m. regarding an unresponsive 23-year-old male. What initially began as a medical emergency was later treated as a death investigation.

Dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE described a young man who was “not conscious” and “not breathing.” First responders administered Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, after he was found in cardiac arrest. Despite those efforts, Robert Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cosby family’s attorney, Clayton Simms, also released a statement expressing their grief. He described Robert Jr.’s death as “incomprehensible,” adding that the family is struggling to understand how someone so young could be gone so suddenly. Simms said the family will remember Robert Jr. for his humor, warmth, and kind heart.

Robert Jr.’s struggles with addiction had previously been discussed publicly. During season five of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, he spoke candidly about his substance abuse, revealing that he began experimenting with drugs at the age of 16. At the time, he opened up about how deeply he had struggled with his mental health.

Mary Cosby had also spoken about her son’s efforts to recover. In 2024, she revealed that he had completed a rehabilitation program and appeared to be on a healthier path. However, he later faced additional legal troubles, including multiple charges connected to incidents in 2025.

News of his death prompted an outpouring of support from the Bravo community. Network executives, fellow cast members, and fans shared messages of sympathy for Mary Cosby and her family. Andy Cohen wrote that the news was “devastatingly sad,” while several of Mary’s co-stars posted messages of love and support online.

As the Cosby family mourns the loss of Robert Jr., they have asked for privacy during this deeply painful time. The tragedy has also sparked renewed conversation about addiction and mental health struggles faced by young people and their families.
