Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are stepping deeper into Hollywood’s elite circles—and their latest move has everyone talking.

The billionaire Amazon founder and the former journalist have landed major roles at the 2026 Met Gala, one of fashion’s most exclusive and high-profile events. Originally announced as sponsors, the couple has now been elevated to serve as honorary co-chairs for the star-studded night.

According to Vogue, Bezos and Sánchez will join an impressive lineup of co-chairs that includes Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and longtime Met Gala leader Anna Wintour.

The announcement came alongside the reveal of the event’s 2026 theme, “Fashion Is Art,” a concept that Sánchez says she’s especially excited about.

During a recent appearance on the Today show, Sánchez shared how thrilled she was when Wintour personally invited her to participate in the event.

“When Anna called me and said, ‘Do you want to co-chair and also be the sponsor of the Met?’ I was so honored,” she said, adding that the artistic theme made the opportunity even more exciting.

Sánchez said she’s particularly eager to see how designers and attendees interpret the theme, noting that fashion designers are true artists in their own right.

The couple’s involvement with the Met Gala didn’t start this year. Last November, they were announced as major donors to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which hosts the annual event.

While the exact amount of their contribution hasn’t been publicly disclosed, Wintour has spoken warmly about the couple’s involvement.

“I think Lauren is going to be a wonderful asset to the museum and to the event,” she said in a previous interview, praising Sánchez’s enthusiasm for fashion and the arts.

But their growing presence in the fashion world hasn’t come without criticism.

Some social media users have accused Bezos and Sánchez of using their enormous wealth to secure influential roles in the industry. Critics argue that the Met Gala should prioritize fashion insiders rather than wealthy newcomers.

Comments online ranged from skepticism to outright mockery, with some questioning whether money alone should grant access to fashion’s most exclusive circles.

Still, their supporters argue that major philanthropic donations have long been part of the Met Gala’s ecosystem—and that high-profile donors often play key roles in supporting the museum and its events.

Regardless of the debate, Bezos and Sánchez are poised to be among the most talked-about figures at the 2026 Met Gala.
