Charley Crockett’s Canadian tour has crashed and burned—and it all traces back to a nearly decade-old conviction.

The rising country star was denied entry into Canada ahead of his scheduled performance at Winnipeg’s Burton Cummings Theatre, forcing him to cancel the entire run of shows. After being turned away at both Vancouver and Kelowna border crossings, Crockett had no path forward. The reason? A 2016 felony conviction in Virginia for selling, giving, or distributing less than five pounds of marijuana.

Taking to Instagram, Crockett didn’t dodge the issue. “Everybody’s got a past. Mine’s still haunting me,” he wrote, candidly acknowledging that the old charge is still casting a long shadow over his career. He also revealed he was warned that trying to cross the border a third time could jeopardize his ability to enter Canada in the future.

“I know this doesn’t begin to make up for y’all’s time and hard-earned money,” he told fans, apologizing for the sudden cancellations. Ticketmaster has confirmed that refunds will be issued to the original form of payment for all affected dates.

The setback comes at a bittersweet moment. Crockett’s album Dollar a Day is nominated for Best Traditional Country Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards, and his new project, Age of the Ram, is slated for release in April. One door may have slammed shut at the border—but his momentum in country music is still charging ahead.
