Chris Hemsworth traded Hollywood chaos for crashing waves—and he says it’s the best move he’s ever made.

The Marvel megastar recently opened up on the SmartLess podcast about walking away from Los Angeles and relocating his family to Byron Bay, Australia. According to Hemsworth, the decision came at a pivotal moment—right around the birth of his twin sons—and it completely changed his life. “It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” he admitted.

At the time, Hemsworth said he and wife Elsa Pataky were settled in L.A., but something just didn’t feel right. Work had them constantly traveling, and the glamour of Tinseltown started to lose its shine. What really pushed him over the edge? The nonstop paparazzi. “Coming home meant dealing with paparazzi and all the baggage that comes with living in that environment,” he explained.

Now, instead of flashing cameras, Hemsworth comes home to wide-open land, surf, and serenity. The couple—who share daughter India Rose and twin boys Sasha and Tristan—are raising their kids on a sprawling property complete with horses, dirt bikes, and ocean views. For the actor, home life feels like an endless vacation. “You know how people look forward to vacations after work? For me, coming home feels like a vacation,” he said.

Hemsworth even reminisced about growing up surrounded by bushland and rainforest, far from the spotlight. That peaceful upbringing seems to have influenced his choice to give his own children a more grounded life—one that’s a world away from red carpets and Hollywood frenzy.
