Katherine Heigl is speaking out following the death of her former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Eric Dane, sharing an emotional tribute to honor his memory.
Heigl, who worked alongside Dane on the long-running ABC medical drama, admitted she struggled with how to publicly address his passing. In a heartfelt social media post, she explained that she typically keeps her grief private but felt compelled to speak up.
“I usually share my tears, stories, and memories with only my closest confidants,” Heigl wrote. “More often than not, I keep them to myself. But I realized my silence might be misconstrued as indifference, and that’s something I couldn’t allow.”
Addressing Dane’s family directly, she added, “To Rebecca, Billie, and Georgia… words fall short in the face of such a devastating loss.” She acknowledged that traditional condolences felt insufficient and instead turned to poetry for comfort, sharing Robert Frost’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay.”
Quoting the poem in full, Heigl reflected on the fleeting beauty of life before concluding with a personal message: “Eric’s golden presence will forever remain in my memory, and I’m eternally grateful for the brief time I got to bask in it. Thank you for sharing him with us. Godspeed, old friend… here’s to your next great adventure.”
