Before the royal drama, bombshell interviews, and shocking exit from palace life, Meghan Markle reportedly had one very important fan inside Buckingham Palace: King Charles.
According to royal expert Russell Myers in his book William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, the early days of Meghan’s marriage to Prince Harry were marked by warmth—especially from Charles. A former palace insider claims the King was “quite taken” with his new daughter-in-law and found her personality magnetic.
Sources say Meghan made a strong first impression, coming across as engaging, polite, and deeply devoted to Harry. At the time, insiders insist there were no immediate warning signs or tensions that concerned Charles. In fact, he was said to be impressed by her confidence and composure under pressure.
So impressed, reportedly, that he gave Meghan a nickname: Tungsten—a metal known for its toughness and resilience. The comparison suggested Charles saw strength in Meghan, particularly as she adjusted to the intense scrutiny of royal life.
Of course, the fairy-tale phase didn’t last. In 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals and later accused members of the Royal Family of racial insensitivity during a televised interview. The couple relocated to California with their son, Prince Archie, and later welcomed daughter Princess Lilibet. But if these new claims are accurate, there was once a time when King Charles was genuinely charmed by the woman who would eventually help rewrite modern royal history.
