Nick Reiner has been arrested following the shocking deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department records, Reiner is currently being held on $4 million bail. Authorities are treating the case as a double homicide.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14, with their throats slit, TMZ reported. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation.

Sources told TMZ that the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby, discovered the bodies and called for help. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed it responded to the home at approximately 3:30 p.m. to provide medical aid, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to his arrest, Nick Reiner, 32, had been questioned by LAPD detectives, according to an earlier report from People.

The case has drawn renewed attention to Reiner’s past struggles, which he had openly discussed for years. He previously spoke about battling addiction and experiencing homelessness in multiple states.

Those deeply personal experiences later became the basis for the 2015 semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which Nick co-wrote with his father, the celebrated director behind Stand By Me. The film explored addiction, recovery, and a fractured father-son relationship. Cary Elwes portrayed the father figure, while Nick Robinson played the son.

The movie’s emotional ending—showing a father apologizing for forcing his son into rehab—was inspired by real events, Rob Reiner later revealed.

“When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen,” Rob Reiner said in a 2015 interview with the Los Angeles Times. “We were desperate, and because these people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.”

Michele Reiner echoed that sentiment at the time, recalling how professionals convinced them their son was being dishonest. “They would tell us he’s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us—and we believed them,” she said.

The investigation into the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner remains ongoing.
