Grimes and Elon Musk’s turbulent relationship is once again playing out in public. The musician and the billionaire tech mogul—who share three children—are back in the spotlight after Grimes revealed that Musk allegedly blocked her on his social media platform, X.
The latest drama unfolded after an X user noticed that Grimes no longer appeared to follow Musk, prompting speculation that the two had unfollowed each other. Setting the record straight, Grimes posted, “For context, I’m just living my life. He followed me and unblocked me. I’m not going to play the follow/unfollow game. My sole focus is co-parenting. I have zero interest in public drama. It’s honestly ridiculous, lol.”

Despite her attempt to downplay the situation, the post reignited interest in one of the most unpredictable relationships in modern celebrity culture. The couple first went public in 2018, and by 2021, Musk announced they were “semi-separated” while continuing to co-parent their son, X Æ A-Xii. They went on to welcome two more children—daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, born via surrogate in late 2021, and son Techno Mechanicus in 2022.
Their partnership, marked by both collaboration and conflict, has veered between moments of affection and highly public disputes. Just last month, Grimes made headlines when she described Musk as an “imminent threat” regarding their children, saying she felt powerless to control him.
Grimes—born Claire Elise Boucher—has also voiced growing concerns about artificial intelligence and its effects on young people. She’s warned that “outsourcing thinking” to AI poses a major risk, a view that starkly contrasts with Musk’s tech-forward stance. In February, Musk boasted during a live presentation that his AI model “Grok 3 is the smartest AI on Earth.” Grimes pushed back, telling Doomscroll’s Joshua Citarella, “I’m tired of experimenting on kids. We’ve seen it with smoking, with McDonald’s, and now we’re going to do it with AI?”
While Musk promotes AI integration through his platform, which allows users as young as 13 to sign up without age verification, Grimes finds herself conflicted. “In some ways, I can’t wait for super-intelligence,” she admitted. “But it’s not as straightforward now that I have kids.”

Their personal and legal battles have been equally complex. In 2023, Grimes filed a petition to establish parental rights for their three children. The following year, she revealed that the ongoing custody fight had delayed her music career. “I’ve spent a year locked in a legal battle in a state with terrible mothers’ rights,” she wrote on X. “My modeling work was used against me in custody proceedings. I didn’t see one of my babies for five months.”
The tension reportedly escalated in February when Musk took their eldest child to the Oval Office without Grimes’s knowledge. She later discovered the visit through a post on X, describing it as another painful example of how public their private lives have become.
Though both insist their focus remains on co-parenting, their back-and-forth exchanges suggest that peace between the two remains fragile. For now, Grimes says she’s done with “public drama”—but when your ex owns the platform where it happens, that’s easier said than done.
