Amy Schumer has confirmed that she and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, have decided to end their marriage after seven years together. The comedian and actress shared the news on social media Friday, leaving many fans stunned by the announcement.

In a heartfelt post, Schumer wrote, “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after seven years. We still have a deep love for each other and will continue to co-parent our son. We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy during this time.” She added reassuringly, “Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”

The couple’s love story began in 2017, leading to a surprise Malibu wedding in February 2018. They welcomed their son, Gene, the following year. Schumer and Fischer also collaborated professionally on the Food Network series Amy Schumer Learns to Cook and the HBO Max docuseries Expecting Amy, which chronicled Schumer’s challenging pregnancy journey.

Speculation about the couple’s relationship had circulated for months after fans noticed Schumer attending events without her wedding ring. The news now confirms what many had quietly suspected.

Schumer, 44, has long been known for weaving real-life experiences into her comedy. Her Hulu series Life & Beth was inspired in part by her relationship with Fischer, who is also a James Beard Award-winning chef known for his acclaimed Beetlebung Farm Cookbook: A Year of Cooking on Martha’s Vineyard.

The Trainwreck star has never shied away from being open about her struggles, including her health battles. In 2021, Schumer underwent surgery for endometriosis that required the removal of her uterus and appendix. Earlier this year, she made headlines when she revealed her difficult experience using Ozempic, describing severe nausea due to a genetic condition.

More recently, Schumer underwent back surgery following a surfing injury and has been documenting her recovery online with her signature mix of humor and honesty.

While neither Schumer nor Fischer has shared additional details about their split, friends and fans have flooded social media with messages of love and support for the couple as they move forward.

For Schumer, who has always met life’s challenges with humor and candor, this next chapter appears to be one she’ll face with the same resilience—and heart—that made fans love her in the first place.
