The animal kingdom is once again ruling the global box office. Disney’s Zootopia 2 has officially surpassed $1.13 billion worldwide—an estimated $1.137 billion, to be precise—with an astonishing $877.7 million coming from international markets. More than half a billion of that total has been earned in China alone, where the animated sequel has become a runaway sensation.
The film crossed the billion-dollar mark in just 17 days, a record-breaking pace for any Hollywood animated feature and the fastest ever for a PG-rated movie. With this milestone, Zootopia 2 has already outperformed the lifetime box-office haul of the original Zootopia, becoming the seventh highest-grossing animated film of all time worldwide and the fourth highest internationally. For 2025, it stands firmly as the year’s biggest movie both globally and overseas.
In its third weekend, the blockbuster brought in another $131.1 million across 52 key international markets. The movie dipped 41 percent overall compared to the previous week, but just 28 percent outside China—a remarkable sign of staying power. It continued to draw strong crowds across Japan, Australia, Germany, Korea, Brazil, Mexico, France, Spain, and the UK, maintaining its hold as the number-one MPA title in nearly every major territory. In Japan, the film scored the highest-grossing second weekend ever for a Walt Disney Animation Studios release and the third highest for any film in the market’s history, taking in $10.6 million. On the IMAX front, Zootopia 2 has also made history, grossing $56.6 million worldwide and becoming only the second animated feature to surpass $50 million in that format. It now ranks as the fourth highest-grossing IMAX animated release of all time.
Meanwhile, other global releases continued to make noise at the box office. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, from Universal and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, slipped 58 percent in its second weekend but still managed $19.1 million across 78 markets. The sequel’s global total has now climbed to $173.8 million, outperforming both The Black Phone 2 and Smile 2. Wicked: For Good, also from Universal, added another $7.7 million from 80 markets, bringing its international total to $155.8 million and pushing its worldwide gross to $468 million. The fantasy musical continues to perform strongest in the UK, Australia, and Germany and is set to open in China on December 24, followed by Japan in early March.
Elsewhere, the Indian espionage thriller Dhurandhar has been quietly expanding its reach, climbing to $61.3 million globally. A handful of other titles saw moderate movement, including Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, The Running Man, Ella McCay, and Regretting You, which continue to add incremental revenue to their international totals.
But this weekend belonged entirely to Disney. With Zootopia 2 racing past $1 billion faster than any animated film in history, the studio has once again proven the unstoppable pull of its storytelling, characters, and global fan base. Nearly a decade after Judy Hopps first hit the screen, the franchise’s second act is not just thriving—it’s roaring louder than ever.
