Former WINNER member and singer Nam Tae Hyun is facing trial on drunk driving charges, marking the latest chapter in his legal troubles.
According to court officials, Judge Heo Jun Seo of the Seoul Western District Court will preside over Nam Tae Hyun’s initial hearing on November 11, where he will face allegations of violating the Road Traffic Act, including driving under the influence.
The incident occurred on April 27 at around 4:10 a.m. near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro highway, heading toward Ilsan. Nam Tae Hyun reportedly struck a median barrier while attempting to overtake another vehicle. Authorities reported that his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit for license revocation (0.08% or higher). Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
This is not Nam Tae Hyun’s first run-in with the law. In January 2022, he received a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, for violating the Narcotics Control Act. After the drunk driving incident, police requested an arrest warrant, citing that the offense occurred during his probation period, but the court denied the request, citing insufficient grounds for detention.
Nam Tae Hyun also faced a DUI-related incident in March 2023, when he caused a minor accident while under investigation for drug use, resulting in a fine of approximately 6 million KRW (around 4,500 USD). Because this is a repeat offense and occurred during his suspended sentence, legal observers and the public are closely watching how the court will rule.
