Simu Liu 36 the star of Marvels blockbuster Shang Chi delivered a sharp criticism of Hollywoods bias against Asian actors. Liu reacted on the 21st to a social media post featuring comments from Manny Jacinto, Daniel Dae Kim, and John Cho about the lack of meaningful roles for Asian performers.

Liu urged studios to cast Asians in anything right now and warned that the regression of on screen representation is alarming, adding that executives view Asian actors as dangerous. He noted the commercial success of films centered on Asian experiences such as Minari, The Farewell, Past Lives, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Crazy Rich Asians, and Shang Chi, emphasizing that each achieved strong box office results.

Liu pointed out that no Asian actor has ever cost a studio nearly 100 million USD while white male actors can fail with 200 million USD budgets twice and still secure leading roles in major franchises, underscoring what he described as a deeply biased system.

Liu will return as Shang Chi in next years Avengers The Kang Dynasty, while a sequel to Shang Chi is in development with its production timeline yet to be determined.
