Pierce Brosnan hasn’t closed the door on a return to the James Bond franchise.

In a recent interview with British GQ, Brosnan addressed the possibility of reprising his iconic 007 role. “People ask if I’d do Bond again, but that’s really someone else’s story now,” he said. However, he added, “That said, I do think there’s potential for me to work within that universe.”

When asked if he would consider playing a retired agent, Brosnan left it open: “Sometimes you seriously consider those kinds of roles, and other times you just move on.” While a full-fledged comeback as the active Bond seems unlikely, a mentor or advisory role could be possible.

The Irish-born actor first took on Bond in 1995’s GoldenEye, followed by Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002). Renowned for his charm and sophistication, Brosnan is still considered one of the franchise’s most beloved Bonds.

Recently, he earned praise for his role as former union leader Ron Ritchie in Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club, adapted from the best-selling novel. He has also started filming season two of Paramount+ crime drama Mobland, starring alongside Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren.

Reflecting on his recent work, Brosnan said, “It’s been a real joy to keep acting over the past two years. Being able to play different characters at this stage in life is a blessing. I enjoy stepping into characters while honoring the legacy of the ones I’ve created.”

He added with humor, “As I’ve gotten older, I try to move forward more consciously. I accept and embrace my age. I don’t need to be jumping out of planes anymore—getting off a bus is adventure enough for me now.”
