Shohei Ohtani’s Wife Steals the Spotlight—Mamiko Tanaka Charms Fans With Her Old iPhone

In Major League Baseball, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is not the only one drawing attention as his wife Mamiko Tanaka has captured fans’ hearts with her grounded and approachable lifestyle.

On March 3, the Dodgers celebrated their World Series championship with a victory parade through the streets of Los Angeles, where Tanaka participated in the festivities, joining players on one of the floats.

Parade Magazine drew widespread attention for showcasing Mamiko Tanaka’s use of an older phone model during the parade. The outlet reported that baseball fans were surprised to see Shohei Ohtani’s wife taking photos from atop a double-decker bus with what appeared to be an iPhone 13 Mini, a model released in 2021 and now discontinued.

Tanaka’s reputation for thriftiness is well established. During last year’s Major League Baseball World Tour Seoul Series, she caught the public’s eye by carrying a simple Zara bag priced at 5,000 JPY (33 USD) to a team dinner. At the games, she chose ordinary seats near first base instead of the VIP area, reinforcing her humble image.

Her understated lifestyle contrasts sharply with her husband’s record-breaking 10-year, 700 million USD contract with the Dodgers, making her frugality even more intriguing to fans and media alike.
