The legendary The Lord of the Rings trilogy is set to return to Korean theaters this winter, premiering for the first time in Dolby format. Megabox announced the exclusive re-release, igniting excitement among fans of the timeless fantasy epic.
The trilogy, considered one of the greatest achievements in cinematic history, will be showcased in Megabox’s premium Dolby Cinema theaters, featuring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for an unparalleled visual and auditory experience. This marks the series’ first Dolby presentation in Korea since its 4K remaster in 2021. The re-release will begin with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring on November 5, followed by The Two Towers in early December and The Return of the King in early January 2026. Having previously drawn over 15 million viewers nationwide, the trilogy’s return offers both longtime fans and new audiences a chance to rediscover Middle-earth on the big screen.
The vivid landscapes and monumental battle scenes will be elevated with Dolby Vision’s enhanced color and contrast, while Howard Shore’s Academy Award-winning score will resonate through Dolby Atmos’ enveloping sound field. To celebrate, Megabox is offering exclusive collectible posters and promotional events, including an early bird package for discounted trilogy tickets, which sold out immediately upon release. A second round of sales runs from Wednesday to November 4, and attendees of all three screenings can enter a special master event to win a replica of the One Ring. In addition, this year’s CSAT test-takers will receive a 10,000 KRW discount coupon for The Fellowship of the Ring in Dolby Cinema, inviting a new generation to experience the magic of Middle-earth. Megabox shared that they are excited to bring this fantasy masterpiece back to theaters with Dolby’s cutting-edge technology, giving audiences a truly immersive holiday season experience.
