Boy group TEMPEST has made a striking comeback, signaling their transformation from youthful idols into mature artists.
At a showcase held on Monday at Ilji Art Hall in Gangnam, Seoul, celebrating the release of their seventh mini album As I Am, the group’s youngest member Taerae offered a glimpse into the album’s concept and mood.
“People often think of TEMPEST as energetic and refreshing,” Taerae said. “While we’ve shown bright, youthful energy before, this time we focused on delivering a more sophisticated and emotional mood with charisma—infusing dreamy, vintage elements into our sound.”
The group’s new mini album As I Am, released at 6 p.m. on October 27 across major streaming platforms, marks their first comeback in about seven months since their sixth mini album in March. The project blends messages of self-belief with comfort and reassurance, reflecting TEMPEST’s honest journey toward finding their true selves beyond the boundaries of external expectations.
The title track, “In the Dark,” tells the story of pressing forward through inner turmoil and fear. Its lyrics, inspired by the members’ own experiences, are expected to resonate deeply with listeners through their sincerity and emotional intensity.
The album also showcases TEMPEST’s expanding musical range through a diverse lineup of tracks. “Nocturnal” captivates listeners with its dreamy, city pop-inspired sound and ethereal mood. “CHILL,” co-written by members LEW and Hyuk, stands out for its heartfelt lyrics that convey sincerity and warmth. “Silly Kid” brings a bold edge with its hip-hop and trap influences, blending direct, expressive lyrics with soaring vocals that deliver catharsis. Finally, “How Deep Is Your Love?” marks TEMPEST’s first venture into the tropical pop genre, adding a refreshing yet gentle touch that perfectly complements the album’s emotional depth.
