Australian singer-songwriter Sia’s ex-husband is reportedly seeking a staggering 250,000 USD per month in spousal support. His justification? To maintain the lavish lifestyle they enjoyed during their marriage.
Multiple media outlets, including the BBC, reported on Wednesday that Sia filed for divorce from her husband, Dan Bernard, a former physician, earlier this year. Court documents reveal that Bernard is arguing for substantial monthly payments to continue living the high life he became accustomed to during their union.
Dan Bernard claims he left his job after meeting Sia and became financially dependent on her while they briefly co-managed a medical venture. He states he has no other sources of income. According to Dan Bernard, the couple routinely splurged over 400,000 USD on luxuries such as private jets, gourmet dining, and a personal staff, leaving him unaccustomed to managing everyday expenses.
Dan Bernard stated that his wife was the breadwinner in the marriage, framing Sia’s potential alimony as a necessity. He added that he needs financial support to renew his medical license, complete years of required training, and pass rigorous exams to practice medicine again. Bernard also cited the need for funds to cover legal fees and court-related accounting costs.
Sia, who burst onto the music scene in 1997, is the powerhouse behind chart-toppers like “Chandelier,” “The Greatest,” and “Alive.” She has also made waves in Korea with hits such as “Snowman” and “Unstoppable,” the latter featured in a Samsung Galaxy advertisement. As a songwriter, Sia’s golden touch has crafted hits for global icons including Rihanna, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Shakira.
This is not Sia’s first marriage. She tied the knot with film producer Erik Anders Lang in 2014, but they divorced in 2016. In 2022, she gave love another chance by marrying radiation oncologist Dan Bernard. The couple welcomed a son, but their marriage was short-lived, ending after just three years.
