Rumors are swirling about the alleged cancellation of Delusion filming in China.

Showbox, the production company behind the highly anticipated Disney+ original series Delusion, addressed the speculation in a statement to TV Daily on Wednesday. A spokesperson said that the filming locations are still under consideration, and nothing has been finalized at this point.

The buzz began earlier when OSEN reported that Delusion had scrapped its plans for a China shoot initially scheduled for early to mid-October. The report suggested that the lead actors were now focusing on domestic filming instead. Industry insiders speculated that the recent controversy surrounding actress Jun Ji Hyun’s dialogue in another Disney+ series, Tempest, might have influenced the decision to cancel the Chinese location shoot for Delusion.

The controversy stems from an episode of Tempest that aired on October 10, in which Jun Ji Hyun’s character, Seo Mun Ju, asks, “Why does China seem to prefer war? A nuclear bomb could fall on the border region.” This line sparked outrage among some Chinese netizens.

While some industry watchers drew connections between the Tempest controversy and the alleged cancellation of Delusion filming in China, Showbox quickly dispelled such notions. The company stated firmly that production is proceeding as planned within Korea.

Delusion, starring A-listers Kim Seon Ho and Bae Suzy, is a period drama set in 1935 Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul). The story follows talented painter Yoon Yi Ho (Kim Seon Ho) as he becomes entangled in the enigmatic world of Song Jeong Hwa (Bae Suzy), a mysterious woman who has been the subject of rumors and speculation for over half a century. As Yoon Yi Ho delves deeper into Song Jeong Hwa’s secrets while painting her portrait, a captivating narrative unfolds. Fans can look forward to this intriguing series, slated for release in 2026.
