K-Pop rookies TWS are making their mark, but how did these stars-in-the-making actually get discovered? Members Dohoon and Youngjae just spilled the tea on their unbelievably unique paths to fame, proving that sometimes, fate really does come knocking!
The duo sat down with the YouTube channel ggondaehee on October 12 for a video titled, “Boneless Braised Spicy Chicken Meal with TWS Dohoon and Youngjae: Celebrating Their Comeback,” and the casting stories were instant gold.
The Puffer Jacket Prophet: Dohoon’s Serendipity
Dohoon’s journey began back in 2018 when he was just starting middle school. Picture this: a young Dohoon is leaving an elementary school graduation wearing a white puffer jacket when a stranger approaches him asking if he had representation.
“I gave them my number anyway,” Dohoon recalled. Rushing home to tell his mom he’d been scouted, he was quickly brought back to reality when she asked, “Did you get a business card?” Ouch.
Feeling defeated, he returned to the ceremony—and that’s when his current agency found him! The recruiter sealed the deal with the magic words: “Our company represents SEVENTEEN.” Dohoon thought, “This opportunity is too good to pass up,” and the rest is history!
The Instagram DM Slide: Youngjae’s Digital Discovery
Meanwhile, Youngjae’s entry was a bit more modern. He was just 16 when he joined the agency after a simple Instagram direct message (DM).
Youngjae shared that he was actually fielding “multiple offers via direct message at the time,” but after careful consideration, he chose his current label. Who knew scrolling through DMs could lead to K-Pop stardom?
The Accent That Stole Dohoon’s Heart
Their cute trainee bond started with a strong regional accent! Dohoon, a Seoul native, reminisced about his first encounter with Youngjae, who hails from Gimhae.
Youngjae introduced himself to the group in his strong dialect: “Hello, I’m Choi Youngjae from Gimhae.” Dohoon couldn’t help but laugh. “His accent was even more pronounced,” he said, calling the young, innocent newcomer “incredibly endearing” and “so charming.”
Don’t forget: TWS is dropping their fourth mini-album, play hard, on Monday! You know we’ll be playing it on repeat!
