Jung Woo Sung recently made headlines with the announcement of his marriage, but the news has also reignited public interest in the child support payments he has reportedly been making to Moon Ga Bi, the mother of his child born out of wedlock.
In November 2024, attorney Noh Jong Eon of the South Korean law firm Jonjae discussed the issue during an appearance on a YouTube channel. Referencing the 2021 Family Court Child Support Guidelines, Noh Jong Eon explained that child support in Korea is calculated based on monthly income, not total assets.
According to the guidelines, the highest standard listed corresponds to a monthly income of 12 million KRW (approximately 8,700 USD), resulting in a support payment of 2.207 million KRW (roughly 1,590 USD). Noh Jon Eon noted, however, that no official formulas exist for incomes above that threshold, which can complicate high-profile cases.
He further pointed out that since Moon Ga Bi is actively working and earning her own income, the child support amount could be subject to reduction. “Given how difficult it may be to reach a mutual agreement,” Noh Jong Eon said, “this case could potentially lead to the highest child support ruling in South Korean history.”
The story first drew national attention in late 2024, when Moon Ga Bi surprised the public with the announcement of her child’s birth, and the revelation that Jung Woo Sung was the father. His agency confirmed they were “working toward the best possible child-rearing arrangement.”
The controversy intensified when it was revealed that Jung Woo Sung and Moon Ga Bi were never romantically involved, further fueling public interest. At the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards, Jung Woo Sung addressed the situation directly, stating:
“I accept all criticism, and as a father, I will fully uphold my responsibilities to my son.”
In a surprising update, Jung Woo Sung recently filed his marriage registration, but not with Moon Ga Bi. Instead, he’s marrying a longtime girlfriend with whom he’s maintained a private relationship. His agency declined to elaborate, saying, “This is a personal matter, and we are not in a position to make an official comment.”
Looking ahead, Jung Woo Sung is set to return to the screen later this year in the upcoming Disney+ original series Made in Korea.
