Lee Soo Hyuk and Arin of OH MY GIRL opened up about their time at the Cannes International Series Festival during their appearance on the YouTube talk show Naraesik, hosted by Park Na Rae, on Wednesday.

The two stars, currently promoting the Wavve original drama S Line, appeared as guests and shared behind-the-scenes stories from their Cannes trip.

Lee Soo Hyuk reflected on the team’s experience at the festival, pointing out Arin’s professionalism: “In Cannes, there are always parties after official events. But Arin was in her hotel room getting ready for the red carpet the next day while everyone else was out having fun,” he said.

“I had just endured a 22-hour flight and was hungover—I could barely stand on the red carpet—but there she was, perfectly composed. That made me reflect on what we were really there for. Her flawless red carpet photos were already up on social media. I still haven’t managed to post mine,” he added with a laugh.

When asked about her first impression of Lee, Arin shared, “I was nervous going into our first script reading, but he made me feel at ease by joking around.”

Park Na Rae commented that Lee gives off a “protective older brother” vibe, to which Arin agreed, though she added with a laugh, “We actually call him ‘uncle’ all the time since he plays my friend’s uncle in the show.”

Arin went on to say that she discovered Lee’s unexpectedly humorous side while in Cannes. Lee elaborated, “It was my first time doing interviews in that kind of setting, and there were questions that might have been tricky for a female idol to answer. Given that S Line deals with provocative themes, those kinds of questions were expected. So I stepped in to deflect them and shield her.”

He continued, “During our recent promo schedules, Arin kept asking, ‘Where are you going, sunbaenim?’ I realized it was because things had been easier for her back in Cannes with me stepping in. I told her, ‘In Korea, it’s you’re on your own in Korea.’” Arin laughed and said, “But you hardly ever reply to texts!”

Lee responded, “Well, at Cannes, there was no one else to step up. When I thought a question wasn’t right for her, I’d answer instead. That’s all.” Arin nodded and said, “I was honestly really touched.”

Lee concluded playfully, “As soon as we boarded the flight home, though, it was back to everyone for themselves.”
