Yang Se Jong recently revealed that he felt an immediate spark after reading the script for the upcoming Disney+ drama Low Life.
The project marks his return to the screen alongside Lee Dong Hwi and Yoo Yeon Seok in a series that blends nostalgia, suspense, and dark comedy. Appearing in a recent episode of Yoo Yeon Seok’s Weekend Talk on YouTube, titled “Is This Combo for Real? The Bromance of Three Men | Day 4 of Promotions | Lee Dong Jwi and Yang Se Jong,” the cast discussed what drew them to the project and the behind-the-scenes dynamics.
When asked by host Yoo Yeon Seok why he chose to take on Low Life, Yang Se Jong shared, “The day after reading the script, I immediately reached out and said I wanted to do it. My heart was truly racing.” He continued, “The story was so entertaining, and every character felt rich and distinct. I was completely hooked.”
Describing his role, Yang Se Jong said his character is someone who acts purely on instinct. “He’s impulsive—he just moves the moment something stirs inside him,” he explained.
Yoo Yeon Seok responded by highlighting the contrast with Yang Se Jong’s real-life demeanor. “You’re someone who usually thinks carefully before acting,” he noted.
Yang Se Jong agreed, admitting with a laugh, “Absolutely. But to be honest, I do have that impulsive side in me. I tend to keep it in check most of the time.” Lee Dong Hwi chimed in supportively, saying, “That kind of impulse exists in all of us. We don’t always express it openly.” Yang Se Jong added that portraying a more spontaneous personality on screen was a refreshing change. “It felt liberating. I really enjoyed it.”
The conversation also touched on Yang Se Jong’s intense work ethic. Yoo Yeon Seok recalled, “Whenever we’re working on a project, Se Jong never goes straight home. He says he’s off to the office to practice. I even heard that he sometimes rents a room to stay focused while preparing.” Yang Se Jong confirmed the habit, explaining, “I’d love to work from home, but there are too many distractions. So I either stay at the rehearsal space or find somewhere quiet.”
Lee Dong Hwi, who owns two cats, could relate. “Cats are absolutely a distraction. Mine are so cute, I end up petting them, cuddling them, and then hours go by without realizing it,” he joked.

Yang Se Jong and Lee Dong Hwi star in Low Life, which premieres July 16 on Disney+. Set in 1977, the series follows a group of earnest but naïve countrymen who become entangled in a web of deception and double-crosses as they compete to recover a long-lost treasure ship buried beneath the sea.
