Anthony Guidera, an actor known for roles in ‘Species’ and ‘The Godfather Part III,’ has died. He was 65.
Guidera died on Saturday, June 6, after complications from a cardiac arrest in May, according to TMZ. He had reportedly been on life support for three weeks before his death.
His wife, Valarie Anderson, confirmed the news in a Facebook post.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Anthony,” Anderson wrote. “We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible, taking each moment as it comes. Please hold this eternal light in your hearts and our family in your prayers.”
Anthony Guidera Made His Film Debut In ‘The Godfather Part III’
Guidera was born on October 18, 1960, in San Francisco, California.
His first screen role came in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1990 crime drama ‘The Godfather Part III.’ In the film, Guidera played a bodyguard named Anthony.
The role placed him in a major Hollywood cast that included Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Andy García, Eli Wallach, Joe Mantegna, Bridget Fonda, George Hamilton, and Sofia Coppola.
For a first film credit, it was a major entry point.
His ‘Species’ Role Became One Of His Best-Known Parts
Guidera became more recognizable to genre fans in 1995 with ‘Species.’
In Roger Donaldson’s sci-fi thriller, he played Robbie Llywelyn, the diabetic man killed by Natasha Henstridge’s alien-human hybrid character, Sil.
The role became one of Guidera’s most remembered screen appearances, especially among fans of 1990s sci-fi and horror.
He later appeared in several other films, including ‘The Rock,’ ‘Precious Find,’ ‘Til There Was You,’ ‘The Postman,’ ‘Armageddon,’ and ‘The Annihilation Of Fish.’ His final movie credit came in 2005 with ‘L.A. Dicks.’
