Tom Hardy reportedly was not pushed out of ‘MobLand.’ He chose to walk away.
After days of chatter about the actor’s future on the Paramount+ crime series, a new report claims Hardy decided against returning for a possible third season. Sources said the situation was not a firing, despite the rumors gaining traction online.
As one insider put it, “You can’t be fired if you have a two-year deal.”
Tom Hardy Reportedly Chose Not To Return
Hardy, 48, reportedly signed a two-year deal for ‘MobLand,’ which means his possible exit after season 2 was always more complicated than the internet made it sound.
According to sources, the second season brought creative friction behind the scenes. Hardy, known for his film work, reportedly wanted access to all season scripts in advance so he could understand his character’s full arc.
That reportedly clashed with the show’s more flexible writing style.
“You have an A-plus writer with significant influence and a ‘let’s see where this goes’ approach, paired with an A-plus actor accustomed to knowing a character’s entire journey,” one source said.
On-Set Tension Was Reportedly Low-Key
The report claimed Hardy spent significant time in his trailer during production, which allegedly caused delays and budget strain.
Still, insiders pushed back on the idea of an explosive feud.
“It was all very passive-aggressive and British,” one source said. “It wasn’t even a feud.”
Once Hardy indicated he would not return, producers reportedly began looking at possible replacements. Colin Farrell was approached but declined. Idris Elba was reportedly still considering the role when news of Hardy’s exit surfaced.
Helen Mirren Rumors Were Shut Down
The situation grew messier when viral posts falsely claimed Helen Mirren had played a role in Hardy’s exit because of political differences.
On-set sources firmly denied that version.
“There’s never been an Israeli-Palestinian issue,” one insider said. “This show had plenty of issues. It never had that.”
In fact, the report claims Mirren and Pierce Brosnan privately reached out to Hardy with support as the controversy spread.
Mirren also posted a photo of Hardy on Instagram on Friday, May 29, writing, “Love you now and always.”
For now, the story sounds less like a dramatic firing and more like a tense creative split. Hardy may be done with ‘MobLand,’ but insiders say the reason is far more complicated than one viral rumor.
