Hannah Waddingham is not letting those ‘Ted Lasso’ feud rumors run loose.
The Emmy-winning actress, who plays Rebecca Welton on the Apple TV+ hit, pushed back this week after speculation spread about her working relationship with Jason Sudeikis. The chatter started after Waddingham discussed Sudeikis’ creative style in a Variety interview published May 30.
Some readers apparently took her comments as tension. Waddingham had a very different message.
Hannah Waddingham Shuts Down Jason Sudeikis Rumors
Waddingham, 51, addressed the talk in a now-expired Instagram story on Tuesday, June 2.
“For the first time ever, I find it necessary to silence the utter rubbish being written about the cast’s relationships,” she wrote, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The speculation centered on her remarks about filming the upcoming fourth season of ‘Ted Lasso.’ Waddingham had said working with Sudeikis, 50, requires flexibility because he often adjusts scenes during production.
“There’s always going to be some give-and-take within a scene, given Sudeikis’s working style,” she said.
She added that Sudeikis hears things in the room, then the team makes changes.
“With that guy, you’ve got to be flexible,” Waddingham said. “He and I have this ongoing love-hate dynamic where he tweaks the script at the eleventh hour.”
Waddingham Calls Sudeikis A Close Friend
Waddingham made clear that her comments were not meant as a sign of bad blood. In her Instagram story, she called Sudeikis her “beloved, long-standing friend and acting partner.”
Then she got even blunter.
“Ridiculous clickbait,” she wrote, according to ET. “Is it a slow news day or something?! Get a life!!!”
That response felt very Rebecca Welton in spirit. Sharp. Protective. Not interested in letting the internet rewrite the room.
The timing also matters. ‘Ted Lasso’ is heading into its fourth season, and fans are eager for any clue about what comes next. With that kind of attention, even a casual remark about script changes can turn into a full rumor cycle.
‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Heads Back To Richmond
The fourth season is set to premiere August 5, three years after the show’s third season. The delay follows another long gap between seasons 2 and 3, which Sudeikis previously linked to the show’s large writing demands.
“We had a vast amount of story to navigate,” Sudeikis told USA TODAY in 2023. “So many narratives, characters, and connections that needed resolution.”
The new season will follow Ted Lasso as he returns to Richmond, England, to coach a women’s soccer team. According to Apple TV+, Ted and the team will learn to take bold risks they never expected.
Waddingham ended her message by teasing what fans can expect.
“Season 4 is going to be a real humdinger, as our mustachioed friend would say,” she wrote. “See you all on Nelson Road! Long live AFC Richmond!”
So, feud? Waddingham says absolutely not. New season drama? That part, thankfully, still sounds very much alive.
