Gwyneth Paltrow is clearing up one thing fast: she does not consider herself a Republican.

The 53-year-old actress and Goop founder addressed her politics during a recent episode of her ‘Goop’ podcast, where she spoke with Trae Stephens, co-founder of the AI defense firm Anduril. The conversation turned to political division, open dialogue and how hard it has become to hear out opposing views.

Paltrow said her husband, Brad Falchuk, sees her politics differently than she does. That part caught fire online almost immediately.

Gwyneth Paltrow Says She Is Not Republican

Paltrow described Falchuk, whom she married in 2018, as deeply progressive and compassionate.

“I see it with my husband too, who’s truly the best person in the world,” Paltrow said. “He’s incredibly progressive.”

She added that Falchuk wants people to be cared for, but she sometimes pushes him to hear out views outside his own lane.

“In today’s political climate, I sometimes find myself thinking, ‘Can you just hear this out?'” she said.

Then came the line that got people talking.

“I consider myself fairly centrist, but my husband perceives me as a Republican,” Paltrow said.

She quickly clarified the point.

“I’m not a Republican,” she said.

Paltrow Says She Feels Independent

Paltrow, the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and late TV director Bruce Paltrow, said she is trying to move away from political anger and fear.

“As I navigate the complexities of being an American right now, I’m trying to reconcile various perspectives,” she said.

She added that she wants to step away from self-righteousness, anger and fear. Then she offered another comment that raised eyebrows.

“To be completely candid, I don’t feel anything right now,” Paltrow said. “I feel entirely independent.”

That remark did not land well with some critics. Social media users accused her of sounding disconnected from people facing real-world struggles.

One X user called the comments tone-deaf and privileged. Another told Paltrow to visit American cities and talk to working people who are having a hard time.

Critics Say Her Comments Sound Out Of Touch

Several critics framed Paltrow’s remarks as another example of celebrity distance from everyday life. Others focused on the contrast between her description of Falchuk and her own political position.

One user wrote that Paltrow seemed to be admitting her husband was the more compassionate person in the relationship.

Paltrow has praised Falchuk’s values before. In December 2025, she accepted the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment gala and thanked him directly.

“I want to express my gratitude to my manager, my husband Brad Falchuk, who is the most feminist man I know,” she said.

For now, Paltrow seems firm on one point. Her husband may read her politics one way. The internet may read them another. But she says she is not claiming a Republican label.
