Mel B thinks the Spice Girls owe fans something big for the 30th anniversary of ‘Wannabe.’
The 51-year-old singer, best known as Scary Spice, shot to global fame with Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner after the group released the 1996 hit. The song helped turn the Spice Girls into one of the defining pop acts of the decade.
Now, with the milestone approaching, fans are once again asking the same question: could the girls reunite?
Mel B Says The Spice Girls Are Talking
In a new interview with the Press Association, Mel B addressed speculation that the group could reunite around June 26 to mark 30 years since ‘Wannabe.’
“It’s our 30th anniversary; I definitely think we should be doing something,” she said.
Still, she made it clear that nothing is locked down yet.
“Whether that actually happens or not is another story, but we’re all discussing it because, if nothing else, we owe it to our fans,” Brown said.
That is enough to get Spice Girls fans buzzing. After all, this is the group behind ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, ‘Stop’ and ‘Viva Forever.’ Their original run ended when they began an indefinite hiatus in December 2000, but the demand never really went away.
“They’ve been incredibly loyal and have stuck with us all this time, even now, 30 years later,” Brown added. “We should be doing something for them.”
Fans Still Want Another Spice Girls Moment
The group last reunited on a major global stage at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony. They later returned for the 2019 ‘Spice World’ tour, though Beckham did not take part.
Brown did not reveal what a new anniversary project could look like. A tour? A performance? A one-night event? For now, she is keeping that part quiet.
“I can’t reveal what that might be right now because nothing has been confirmed or finalized,” she said.
Brown also joked that her own children call her “vintage” because she is still deeply attached to the 1990s. The leopard-print look is apparently not going anywhere either.
“I’m still wearing the same stuff, still listening to the same music,” she said.
Mel B Also Wants Families To Put Phones Down
Away from Spice Girls talk, Brown is working with O2 on a campaign aimed at cutting down on doom-scrolling. The company is introducing a call-back service meant to remind people to step away from their phones.
Brown said she worries about how much technology affects children and families.
“We’re missing out on so much by not being present with ourselves and truly communicating with our kids because we’re constantly distracted,” she said.
She also said constant phone use can affect sleep and mental health.
For Brown, the mission sounds simple. Get people to look up, reconnect and maybe, just maybe, make room for a little more Spice Girls nostalgia.
