Adam Sandler showed up to support his wife Jackie Sandler at the ‘Office Romance’ premiere, but his outfit became the story fast.
The 59-year-old actor attended the star-studded event on Tuesday as Jackie celebrated her new movie, which also stars Jennifer Lopez. Sandler was clearly there in husband mode. The problem, according to critics online, was that he looked like he had dressed for a couch night instead of a Hollywood premiere.
The ‘Happy Gilmore’ star arrived in an oversized orange Knicks hoodie, blue sweatpants, and sneakers. Jackie, meanwhile, looked red carpet ready in a glittery black dress, black tights, and heels. That contrast did not go unnoticed.
Adam Sandler’s Premiere Look Gets Roasted
Sandler has never pretended to be a red carpet fashion guy. His relaxed style has become part of his public image, and fans usually expect him to show up in basketball shorts, hoodies, or loose casual looks.
This time, some felt he should have made more effort because the night belonged to Jackie.
“I feel like it’s one thing when he’s promoting or doing his own projects but for his wife’s work you think he could throw on some khakis and a golf shirt at least lol,” one person wrote on Reddit. Another critic joked, “He always looks like he just turned thirteen and discovered his dad’s credit card.”
A third commenter took a wider shot at the double standard, writing, “It must be so cool to be a man and be allowed to look like garbage.”
Some Fans Defended Sandler’s Style
Not everyone was bothered.
Several fans argued that Sandler dressing casually is hardly shocking at this point. One person wrote that, by Sandler standards, the outfit was close to formal wear. Another joked that his sweats and hoodie at least matched, which counted as progress. Someone else added, “It’s his shtick why are we surprised lol.”
Sandler has also said Jackie does not mind how he dresses. He previously explained that while others have told him to improve his outfits, Jackie has always defended him. “My wife would say, ‘He’s comfortable like that. Let him do that. Leave him alone,’” he said.
Adam And Jackie Have Been Together For Decades
Sandler met Jackie on the set of his 1999 comedy ‘Big Daddy’, where she had a small role as a waitress.
The couple married in 2003 at Dick Clark’s oceanfront estate in Malibu, with guests including Jennifer Aniston, Jack Nicholson, Rob Schneider, and Sharon Osbourne.
They share two daughters, Sadie, 20, and Sunny, 17, both of whom have followed their parents into entertainment. The sisters have appeared in projects including ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, ‘You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah’, and ‘Leo’. Sandler has said he encourages his daughters to focus on their own effort rather than outside noise.
For now, though, the outside noise is aimed at him. Sandler may have meant to stay in the background at Jackie’s big night, but that Knicks hoodie made it impossible.
